India’s head coach Ravi Shastri defended himself by saying that whole of the United Kingdom was open while responding to the allegations that his book launch event in London was the cause of his getting affected with Covid-19 during the course of the 4th Test at Oval.
Along with him, 2 other support staff Bharat Arun, bowling coach, and Sridhar, the fielding coach also tested positive. And just a day prior to the start of the 5th Test at Manchester, the 2nd physio in the team Yogesh Parmer went out with Covid. So as a result of that, the final Test had to be canceled.
A section of English media blamed his event on September 1 as the cause of Covid in the Indian camp while few reports stated that BCCI was also unhappy with him and Kohli attending the event.
Shastri who has returned negative 2 times since then, spoke to mid-day and mentioned that there were no restrictions in the UK.
“The whole country (United Kingdom) is open. Anything could have happened from Test One,” Ravi Shastri said.
“Been the best summer of cricket England has seen in a long time from an Indian team”: Ravi Shastri
He shifted focus to his team’s fantastic performance in the country where they were leading 2-1 after 4 Tests. Shastri was buoyed by the Indian team’s winning run in Australia, England in the last year during these tough Covid times.
“It’s been the best summer of cricket England has seen in a long time certainly from an Indian cricket team. It’s Covid times, awesome summer though. The boys were fantastic either side of the Thames,”
“No team played in Covid times like this Indian team did in Australia and England. Just ask the experts here. Nothing has given me more job satisfaction in the game and I have been around for a bit as you would know,” Ravi Shastri added about India’s recent success away from home.
