Indian no.3 batsman and Test cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara surpassed 6000 run mark in Test match cricketer in his 80th game for India in the longest format of the game. He reached the milestone in the 2nd innings of the SCG Test and was a catalyst in the visiting team earning a draw agaisnt Australia.

Pujara as we all know is an epitome of patience and has the reputation of playing long innings by draining out opposition bowlers. He did play a similar kind of knocks in both the innings but his 77 in the 2nd innings was the one which was instrumental in India holding the Aussies to a draw.

When he reached 47 on Day 5, Pujara registered his 6000th run in Test match cricket and became the 11th Indian batsman to do so. He now joins a host of 10 other great players in the list lead by highest run-scorer for India in Test cricket Sachin Tendulkar who had scored an all-time record 15921 runs in 20o Test matches that he has played.

Legend Rahul Dravid is the 2nd in the list with 13625 runs in 163 games while another great Sunil Gavaskar is the 3rd having piled up 10122 runs in the 125 games he has donned whites for India. VVS Laxman(8781 runs from 134), Virender Sehwag(8503 from 103) complete the top 5.

The others above Puajra’s 6030 Test runs are Gundappa Vishwanath(6080 from 91), Mohammad Azharuddin(6215 from 99), Dilip Vengsarkar(6868 from 116), current BCCI President Sourav Ganguly(7212 from 113) and Indian skipper Virat Kohli who has scored 7318 runs from 87 games he has played so far.

Pujara has also scored 18 centuries in Test cricket and averages an oustanding 47.85. By reaching the landmark in his 134th innings, the Indian batting mainstay became the 5th fastest Indian and 30th fastest overall to do so. Virat Kohli remains the fastest(119 inns) among Indian players to reach the milestone.
