Mitchell Starc became the 9th Australian bowler to take 250 wickets in Test cricket when he dismissed Indian wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant in the Boxing-Day Test match at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground(MCG).
The left-arm pacer went past the great Richie Benaud’s tally of 248 wickets when he trapped Mayank Agarwal in front at the fag end of play on Day 1. He is the 7th Australian fast bowler to achieve this landmark. He reached the milestone in his 59th Test match representing Australia.
His recent form coming into this Test series may have been patchy but he played a vital role in the first Pink-Ball Test match at Adelaide taking 4 wickets in India’s first innings restricting them to 244.
The legendary leg-spinner Shane Warne leads the wicket-taking charts for Australia with 708 scalps with another great Glenn McGrath comes behind him with 563 Test wickets. Off-spinner Nathan Lyon who is currently playing with Starc is at 3rd position with 392 wickets.
The others above Mitchell Starc are Dennis Lilee(355), Mitchell Johnson(313), Brett Lee(310), Craig McDermott(291), and Jason Gillespie(259).
