Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Thursday announced a 15 man squad for the T20 World Cup in UAE.
Mahmudullah Riyad will lead the side that recently took a 3-1 lead in the New Zealand series on Wednesday with one match still to play. The makeup of the squad is exact same and the bunch of 15 players will be eager to make a mark in the upcoming mega event. Alongside Mahmudullah, star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and wicket keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim are the other 2 experienced players in the team.
Youngster Shamim Hossain who was also the part of under-19 World Cup winning team has managed to get a spot in the 15 man squad.
Veteran opener Tamim Iqbal is going to miss the tournament as confirmed by the BCB chief selector. Tamim was the top scorer in the 2016 edition of the T20 World Cup with 295 runs, but has not played a T20I game since March last year and missed the series win over Australia last month and the current New Zealand T20I series because of a knee injury.
Bangladesh will miss the services of Tamim
The 32-year-old left hander was expected to be fit for the World Cup but recently announced that he wanted to give chance to younger players.
“Tamim Iqbal is one of our best players in three formats,” said chief selector Minhajul Abedin as he announced the squad. “It’s unfortunate we did not get him. We will miss him. But we are confident he will come back.”
Bangladesh are in preliminary Group B with Scotland, Papua New Guinea and Oman for the Silverware tournament that begins on October 17 in the UAE.
