Chris Green signed up by Middlesex for the first half of T20 blast

Australian off-spinner Chris Green has been signed by the Middlesex for the first half of the Vitality T20 Blast 2021 campaign.

Chris Green comes in as a replacement player for Afghanistan mystery spinner Mujeeb ur Rahman, who is unable to join up with Middlesex until the second half of the competition.

Mujeeb’s arrival has been delayed by visa issues and complications related to his travel from Kabul to London, given Afghanistan’s coronavirus status as a red-listed country. The club is hopeful that the Afghanistan spin sensation will be a part of the club in the second half of the T20 tournament. He is expected to be available for the last seven group games.

In T20 cricket the former Birmingham Bears player has picked 87 wickets to his name from 108 appearances, with best bowling figures of 4 for 14 and the highest score of 49. Green won the Big Bash League 2015-16 with Sydney Thunder.

Middlesex Cricket Club head coach Stuart Law said: “Chris is an experienced performer in T20 cricket and has played in tournaments all over the world.

“He has had a huge impact at Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash for a few years now and I look forward to him bringing that wealth of experience here to Middlesex.

“Dealing with Covid has caused us a few headaches, but Chris will slot in nicely to cover for Mujeeb until his arrival.”

On joining Middlesex, Chris himself commented:

“I am really chuffed to be joining Middlesex and I am excited to meet up with the rest of the squad and get stuck into training with the Blast starting soon. I have enjoyed my previous experiences playing in England and I am looking forward to playing at Lords for the first time.”

The London-based club will kickstart their Vitality T20 Blast campaign against Kent on 11 June. Middlesex’s second overseas slot for the T20 Blast will be shared between Paul Stirling and Daryl Mitchell.
