India’s opener Rohit Sharma holds the record for the highest run scorer in the ODIs with his 264 runs. He is the only player in the world to have scored three double-centuries in ODI cricket.

God of Cricket – Sachin Tendulkar, was the first male player to reach the double-century mark in ODI cricket. He scored the first double-century of the format against South Africa in 2010.

Playing against one of the best cricket teams – Australia in 2013 in the last ODI of the series, Rohit Sharma became the 3rd cricketer ever to score ODI Double-century. The Hitman – Rohit Sharma scored his then career best 209 runs off just 158 balls including 12 boundaries and a record 16 sixes.

In the same innings Rohit Sharma broke another record of maximum sixes in an innings with 16 sixes surpassing the previous record of Shane Watson who smashed 15 sixes against Bangladesh at Dhaka in the year 2011.

In the Eden Gardens Stadium of Kolkata, Rohit Sharma scored the biggest ODI score ever against Sri Lanka. With his special innings, Hitman lit up the Eden Garden stadium and made up for the failure when he fell 10 runs short of the then-record held by Virender Sehwag — 219 against the West Indies.

For the first part of his innings, Rohit scored 50 of 72 balls, 100 in 100, 150 in 125, 200 in 151, 250 in 166, and he finished with a score of 264 in 173 balls. By the time he finished his innings on the last ball of the innings, Rohit was 45 runs ahead than Sehwag’s record. And Hitman’s record is still intact even after 7 years and will remain there at the top for long.

Rohit Sharma vs Sri Lanka

Once again against Sri Lanka, Rohit Sharma scored his third double-century in ODI cricket.  In the 2nd ODI match between India vs Sri Lanka in Mohali 13 Dec 2017, Rohit Sharma playing as the skipper of the team scored his record third double-century. Hitman remained unbeaten at 208* runs off 153 balls with 13 boundaries and 12 sixes. Hitman’s knock took India to 392/4 in 50 overs and eventually India went on to win the match comfortably by 141 runs.

Double Century in ODI Cricket – Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar – God of Cricket became the first ever male cricketer to score a double century in ODI cricket. Playing against South Africa in Gwalior, Master Blaster – Sachin Tendulkar reached his double-century in the final over of the innings. The match was all about individual brilliance but not a contest as South Africa failed to chase 402 despite AB de Villiers century.

Fastest Double Century in ODI Cricket – Chris Gayle

Universe Boss – Chris Gayle scored the fastest double-century in ODI cricket against Zimbabwe. In 2015, The swashbuckling batter became the first cricketer to score a double-century in World Cup.

In the group game of World Cup 2015 against Zimbabwe, West Indies’ legend cricketer scored 215 runs off just 147 balls with 16 sixes and 10 boundaries. He reached the double century milestone in just 138 balls.

Chris Gayle became the first non-Indian and the fifth batsman overall to score a double-century in the 50-over format. Before Gayle, Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, and Rohit Sharma (twice) all had achieved the feat.

Double Century in ODI Cricket – Martin Guptill

New Zealand’s opener – Martin Guptill became the second cricketer to score a double-century in World Cup after Chris Gayle. Incidentally, Guptill scored his double-century against West Indies in World Cup 2015 Quarter Final. He remained unbeaten on 237* which is the second highest ODI score after Rohit Sharma’s 264.

Martin Guptill’s 237* is the highest score by any batsman in World Cup history, smashing the previous record of Chris Gayle who had scored 215 against Zimbabwe at Canberra in the same edition of the World Cup.

Double Century in ODI Cricket – Virender Sehwag

Virender Sehwag vs West Indies: India’s opener Sehwag became the second batter in the world to reach the magical double-century in ODI cricket. Virender Sehwag scored a mesmerizing 219 run inning against West Indies at Indore. It was the highest ever ODI score at the time surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s 200*.

While Virender Sehwag is remembered for his blasting opening batting and his twin triple-centuries in Test cricket, his double-century in ODI cricket is also memorable.

Playing against West Indies in Indore,Sehwag reached his double-century off 140 balls as India posted a mammoth total of 418/5. Incidentally, that special double hundred knock turned out to be his last century for India in ODIs so it will always be cherished by the fans all over the world.

Double Century in ODI Cricket – Fakhar Zaman

Pakistan’s left handed swashbuckling opener – Fakhar Zaman became the countries first batter to score a double-century in ODI cricket. Playing against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo in July 2018, Fakhar Zaman scored unbeaten 210* off 156 balls with 24 boundaries and 5 sixes.

Opening along with Imam-ul-Haq, the pair added 304 runs for the first wicket as Imam was dismissed for 113 runs. Fakhar Zaman continued in Asif Ali’s company and reached his double-century off 148 balls.
