In the clash of top teams with good fan base Royal Challengers Bangalore won the match by 13 runs as Chennai Super Kings failed to chase the target of 174 runs. Harshal Patel, Josh Hazlewood restricted CSK to 160/8 as RCB went to 4th place in IPL Points table.
Chennai Super Kings failed to score 56 runs in the last 5 overs as Harshal Patel & Josh Hazlewood won the match for RCB with excellent death bowling. The previous match of IPL 2022 between two teams was won by Chennai Super Kings by 23 runs.
After another solid half-century stand between Devon Conway & Ruturaj Gaikwad, CSK were cruising towards victory. But after Shahbaz Ahmed dismissed Ruturaj in 7th over CSK started losing wickets.
Conway on the other end completed his second half century in consecutive matches. He was dismissed in 15th over by Hasaranga de Silva to provide the opening for RCB bowlers. Conway scored 56 runs off 37 deliveries.
Harshal dismissed Ravindra Jadeja, Moeen Ali & Dwaine Pretorious in successive overs while Hazlewood dismissed MS Dhoni in 19th over to seal the game.
Earlier, after winning the toss CSK skipper Dhoni invited RCB to bat first. Faf du Plessis & Virat Kohli provided the biggest opening partnership of IPL 2022 to RCB. The experienced pair added 62 runs before Du Plessis holes out off to midwicket in Moeen Ali’s first over.
Glenn Maxwell was then caught short of the crease while stealing a close run by Robin Uthappa. Virat Kohli was then dismissed in Moeen next over as he was clean bowled. Kohli scored 30 runs off 33 deliveries in another scratchy innings.
Rajat Patidar & Mahipal Lomror played with intent and score with aggression. Once Lomror departs in 19th over, RCB lost 3 wickets in same over. Dinesh Karthik once again added some valueable runs in final over which proved costly for CSK in the end.
Harshal Patel was declared as player of the match for his incredible death bowling display. With the defeat CSK are now almost out of the race to IPL playoffs. They are at 9th place with 6 points from 10 matches while RCB jumped to 4th place with 12 points from 11 matches.
