Chennai Super Kings returned back to winning ways in IPL 2022 under the skipper MS Dhoni as they beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 13 runs. First CSK set a huge score of 202/2 and then restricted SRH to 189 to win the match by 13 runs.
Nicholas Pooran’s late assault was not enough to take SRH over the victory line. Pooran scored 64 runs off 33 deliveries as other batters failed to score big hits.
After a brisk opening stand of 58 runs, SRH lost Abhishek Sharma & Rahul Tripathi at the end of powerplay. Kane Williamson tried to take the game deep but he was dismissed for 47 off 37 deliveries in 15th over.
Mukesh Choudhary was the pick of CSK bowlers as he took 4 wickets for 46 runs. His wickets of Abhishek & Tripathi turned the favours towards CSK. Then he dismissed Shashank Singh & Washington Sundar in 18th over.
Earlier, SRH Skipper Kane Williamson won another toss and invited CSK to bat first. MS Dhoni returned back as CSK skipper after Ravindra Jadeja handed the captaincy back to him. SRH remained unchanged while CSK went with two changes playing Conway & Simarjeet Singh.
Ruturaj Gaikwad & Devon Conway added 182 runs for the first wicket partnership in 17.5 overs. Ruturaj Gaikwad played a magnificent innings of 99 runs as he misses his century. Devon Conway remained unbeaten 85* off 55 deliveries as CSK piled up 202/2 in 20 overs.
Umran Malik proved costly today as he gave away 48 runs in 4 overs without any wickets to his name. T Natarajan took 2 wickets and gave 42 runs in his 4 overs while Bhuvneshwar Kumar finished with a miserable spell of 22 runs in 4 overs.
Ruturaj Gaikwad was declared as player of the match for his 99 runs innings.
With the victory CSK are still hanging in the race to playoffs by numerical calculations in IPL Points table. They are at 9th place with 6 points 9 matches while SRH remained at 4th place with 10 points from 9 matches.
