Fast bowler – Jasprit Bumrah will be leading Indian cricket team in the rescheduled 5th test match against England which will be starting on Friday. Rohit Sharma – the designated Indian captain, was tested COVID positive once again before the start of the match. Rishabh Pant will be the vice-captain of the team.
Jasprit Bumrah will be the first Indian fast bowler after Kapil Dev to lead Indian cricket team in Test cricket. This will be his first stint as the skipper of the team at any level of cricket.
“It is a very big honour. It is a very big achievement,” Bumrah said. “We did a test today morning as well. Rohit tested positive. Then I was officially informed that I was going to lead the side.”
Rohit Sharma was first tested COVID positive on the second day of India’s warm-up game in Leicester last week. With Rohit Sharma unavailable to play, it remains to be seen who will open for India in the final test.
Rohit was the leading run-getter for team India from the first four tests with 368 runs – the most for India. He also won a Player of the Match award for his second innings century at The Oval.
With KL Rahul already ruled out due to sports hernia, Shubman Gill’s partner is still not decided. The options includes Mayank Agarwal, Cheteshwar Pujara, S Bharat & Hanuma Vihari.
