Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have named Faf du Plessis as their captain for the upcoming IPL 2022.
RCB decided to host a special event called RCB unbox, wherein they announced Faf as their new captain. The event was attended by former IPL skipper Dinesh Karthik and Harshal Patel.
“I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity. I have played a lot of IPL and understand the dynamics of the game. It’s no small thing to trust an overseas player,” said Faf Du Plessis in the event.
“I would rely heavily on the amazing experience of domestic players. We have got great leader of the game in Virat Kohli,” Du Plessis said.
Faf du Plessis was one of the players released by CSK. When everyone thought that CSK would go all out on the South African cricketer, Royal Challengers Bangalore secured the services in the intense bidding war. The former Proteas captain has joined RCB franchise and will be looking forward to making a telling impact with the bat. RCB signed the productive batter for Rs 7 crore at the mega auction in Bengaluru.
RCB also shared a heartfelt message for Du Plessis from ex-skipper Virat Kohli, who stated that he is ‘excited’ to play under the new skipper.
“I can’t be happier for the team and Faf. He is a good friend and we get along very well. Looking forward to a good season,” said Virat Kohli, the outgoing captain.
It is indeed going to be the start of a new era for RCB under Mike Hesson, Sanjay Bangar, and the recently-announced captain Faf du Plessis.
RCB will begin their IPL 2022 campaign on 27 March against Punjab Kings at the DY Patil stadium in Mumbai.
