Five debutants for India against Sri Lanka in the third ODI

The Indian men’s team in Sri Lanka handed as many as five debut caps to Sanju Samson, Rahul Chahar, Nitish Rana, K Gowtham and Chetan Sakariya for the third ODI against Sri Lanka in Colombo.

After winning the series in the second ODI, it was expected that the newly formed team management for this tour will test out their benched players for the third ODI.

The changes came in bulk as team India made six changes to their winning team from the last game with Navdeep Saini and five debutants coming in.

Dhawan confirmed five debutants in the XI

“We have got six changes, and five debutants. Navdeep comes in among the debutants. We are motivated, and we want to finish on a high. With the youngsters coming in, we are really excited and looking forward,” said captain Shikhar Dhawan during the toss.

Sri Lanka also made 3 changes to their lineup with Praveen Jayawickrama, Akila Dananjaya and Ramesh Mendis coming in place of Lakshan Sandakan, Kasun Rajitha and Wanindu Hasaranga.

Sanju Samson will don the gloves in place of Ishan Kishan and expected to slot in at 3 or left handed Nitish Rana will bat at 3 for India. K Gowtham will play the role of the all-rounder in Krunal’s place. Chetan Sakariya and Navdeep Saini are the two fast bowlers picked for the rested Deepak Chahar and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Team India captain Shikhar Dhawan on Friday won the toss and elected to bat first in the third and final ODI.

Sri Lanka’s Playing XI: Avishka Fernando, Minod Bhanuka(w), Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dhananjaya de Silva, Charith Asalanka, Dasun Shanaka(c), Ramesh Mendis, Chamika Karunaratne, Akila Dananjaya, Dushmantha Chameera, Praveen Jayawickrama.
