Glenn Maxwell signs four-year-deal with Melbourne Stars in the BBL

Veteran batter Glenn Maxwell has signed a four-year deal with the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League (BBL). The Victorian has already played 10 seasons for the team after joining them way back in the 2012-13 season. The all-rounder started his BBL career for the Melbourne Renegades.

Maxwell, the third highest run-scorer in the history of the BBL, has played 100 matches in the tournament and has notched 2673 runs with two centuries and 18 half-centuries. The 33-year-old has also been captaining the Stars with a lot of efficiency.

The Melbourne Stars are yet to win a BBL title under Maxwell, who has kept the same in the to-do-list of the franchise. Maxwell was over the moon after penning down the fresh new deal with the Stars.

I want to win a BBL title at the Stars, says Glenn Maxwell

“I’m thrilled to commit to the Stars for another 4 seasons. I want to win a BBL title at the Stars and I believe we have the list to do that. We’ve got a really close group with some of the best T20 players in the world and excellent support from the coaching team,” Maxwell said.

“Our members and fans are the best in the BBL and I can’t wait to see everyone back at the MCG next season. The Stars have been part of my life for a decade and I’m already excited to see what we can achieve in BBL|12 and beyond,” he stated.

Blair Crouch, the Stars general manager, also welcomed Maxwell with open arms. “To have a world class talent like Glenn commit long term to the Stars is a great sign of his faith in the direction of the club and we’d all love to achieve a BBL title,” Couch said.

Maxwell captained the Stars in the 2021-22 edition of the BBL, but failed to take his team to the playoffs. But he showed his class with the bat after emerging as the leading run-scorer of the franchise with 468 runs at an average of 42.54 and a strike rate of 159.72. He also scored an unbeaten 154 against the Hobart Hurricanes.
