Punjab Kings bowlers set up a NRR boosting victory in IPL 2022 as they beat table toppers Gujarat Titans by 8 wickets and 4 overs to spare. Kagiso Rabada – player of the match, dismantled Gujarat Titans batters with his awesome fast bowling and restrict them to 143/8 in 20 overs. Punjab Kings chased down the target by 16th over and 8 wickets to spare.
Shikhar Dhawan scored his 47th IPL half-century as he was well supported by Bhanuka Rajapaksa who scored 40 runs off 28 deliveries. Liam Livingstone provided the fireworks with 30 runs off 10 balls to take PBKS over the victory line. Dhawan remained unbeaten at 62* runs while Livingstone remained unbeaten at 30*.
PBKS Skipper Mayank Agarwal promoted Bairstow as opener to let him bat freely in the powerplay. However, Jonny Bairstow’s poor form with the bat continued as he was dismissed for just 1 run by Mohammed Shami in 3rd over.
Earlier, after winning the toss Gujarat Titans skipper Hardik Pandya opted to bat first. Punjab Kings bowlers led by Kagiso Rabada restricted Gujarat Titans to 143/8 in 20 overs. Sai Sudarshan scored his maiden half-century of the IPL and remained unbeaten at 65* off 50 deliveries.
However, no other Titans batter was able to score runs against PBKS bowlers. Liam Livingstone need to complete the bowling quota for Rahul Chahar and he took the surprise wicket of David Miller.
After taking the wicket of Wriddhiman Saha, Rabada returned in 17th over to dismiss the Ice-Man Rahul Tewatia & Rashid Khan off successive deliveries. In his next over he dismissed Ferguson to finish with figures of 33/4.
With the victory, Punjab Kings moved to 5th place with 10 points from 10 matches in IPL points table. Gujarat Titans remained at pole position with 16 points despite the loss but their NRR got a huge damage.
