Hardik Pandya to lead Ahmedabad Franchise in IPL 2022- Reports

Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya is likely to captain the new franchise from Ahmedabad in the IPL 2022.

If the rumors are to be believed then Pandya, who hails from Baroda in Gujarat, will now be the captain of the Ahmedabad franchise, owned by CVC Capital.

The Ahmedabad franchise is also looking to sign Afghanistan star leg spinner Rashid Khan and former Mumbai Indians wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan before the mega auctions in Bangalore.

“Hardik (Pandya) with his local connect and being a proven IPL performer for Mumbai Indians for so long was an obvious choice as captain and premier player,” said a senior IPL source.

“The franchise has almost finalised its deal with Afghan spin sensation Rashid Khan and dashing keeper-batter Ishan Kishan as their second and third picks from the draft. As of now, that’s what is finalised unless there are changes at the last moment,” the source added.

The Ahmedabad franchise had already started working on the formation of its team management while a few legal issues were still sorted out with BCCI.

CVC was one of two companies to have won bids to own the two new franchises that will play in the IPL from next season- IPL 2022.

The two new franchises will have to give three names (two Indians and one overseas) before the mega auction which is likely to be held in Bengaluru on Feb 11-12.
