Former Australia captain Steve Smith pushed Indian batsman Virat Kohli to the number 3 spot to climb up to number 2 in the ICC Men’s Test rankings. Meanwhile, Kane Williamson remained at the top of the ladder.

Smith who scored 131 and 81 in the two innings of the Pink Test was named as the Player of the match in a drawn game. His Sydney heroics took him one spot ahead of India’s Virat Kohli. Smith reached 900 points after registering his 27th ton in Sydney. He’s now only behind New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson who’s number one with 919 points. 

Marnus reached career best rating

Williamson who hit 238 in the Christchurch Test helped him to consolidate his position at the top of the rankings. 919 rating points is the highest ever by a New Zealand player. India’s number 3, Cheteshwar Pujara’s twin half-centuries pushed him up to No. 8 from the tenth spot. Marnus Labuschagne achieved a career-best of 866 points to stay at No. 4 he hit 91 and 73 in the tied game. Hanuma Vihari (52nd) and Ravichandran Ashwin (89th) to have gained after their fighting knocks on the last day, as has Shubman Gill (69th). Henry Nicholls (9th) leaps back into the top ten after scoring a sensational 157 in Christchurch. India’s skipper Ajinkya Rahane lost one spot and is now in 7th position. South Africa opener Dean Elgar(13) and Srilanka captain Dimuth Karunaratne(15) also gained in the rankings.

Among the bowlers, Josh Hazlewood gained three places to reach No. 5 while New Zealand’s Kyle Jamieson who bagged a career-best match haul of 11 for 117 at Hagley Oval has jumped to the 21st position among bowlers. Anrich Nortje, Wiaan Mulder, Lungi Ngidi, and Lutho Sipamla also rose in the bowlers’ chart to be No. 38, No. 45, No. 47, and No. 49, respectively. Ashwin dropped two places to ninth and is followed by compatriot Jasprit Bumrah (10), who lost one spot.

Jadeja closing in the gap with Stokes

Ravindra Jadeja moves to No.2 on ICC Test Rankings for All Rounders. He’s now just behind Ben Stokes. Jamieson also became the fifth-ranked allrounder after just six Tests.
