India’s off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin helped his national side pulled off a miraculous draw in the third test match of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Coming to bat at no.7, Ashwin copped a few blows on his body but managed to survive the whole day, batting nearly 43 overs with his teammate Hanuma Vihari.
While facing 128 deliveries during the course of his innings, Ashwin scored mere 39 runs. However, the importance of his innings in the context of the match as well as the series cannot be known looking at the scorecard only. The seasoned spinner has performed brilliantly with the bowl throughout the series but the magnificent resilience shown by him while batting would definitely fill him with even more confidence.
Ashwin’s performance is earning him praises from the cricketing fraternity but his wife – Prithi’s startling revelation makes it even more laudable. Writing on his Twitter account, Prithi disclosed the fact that Ashwin was battling with a severe back-pain on the morning of the last day of the Sydney test. She added that veteran cricketer was not even in a condition to tie his shoelaces.
She wrote, “The man went to bed last night with a terrible back tweak and in unbelievable pain. He could not stand up straight when he woke up this morning. Could not bend down to tie his shoe laces. I am amazed at what @ashwinravi99 pulled off today.”

The Indian team’s strength has already been reduced to half with most of their players having some sort of issues in their fitness. However, the reports suggest that Ashwin will be fit ahead of the last test of the series.
As a result of herculean effort of the Indian team in the third test, the series currently hangs in balance with every result possible. The fourth and final test is scheduled to take place in Brisbane from 15th January.
