Ind vs Eng 2021: India topples the highest ranked T20I England by 36 runs, winning the series 3-2

India posted a mammoth 224 in the 5th and final T20I against the number 1 ranked England side at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This match was expected to be a thriller and it served up well. In the end, it was India who secured the series 3-2 after completing a thumping 36-run over England.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli gave India their best start of this series 

The Indian team was once again inserted to bat by the England captain Eoin Morgan at the toss. They had a new opening pair Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, as KL Rahul was given a break. The duo showed their class and complemented each other scoring 60 runs in the first 6 overs. They together formed a 94-run opening stand in just 9 overs.

Surya Kumar Yadav impresses once again 

Virat Kohli played a perfect 2nd fiddle, first to Rohit Sharma who was in such a great form hitting 34-ball 64, and then to Surya Kumar Yadav who smashed 32 from just 17. Then it was the Kohli show along with Hardik Pandya. The duo added 81 runs from the last 40 balls of the innings.

Kohli was unbeaten on 80, his 3rd fifty of the series, and Pandya scored a quickfire 39 from 17 deliveries. India reached a massive 224 runs for the loss of 2 wickets, it is the first 200 plus score in the series.

Chasing 225 runs to win the series, England lost Jason Roy in the 2nd ball to an inswinger from Bhuvneshhwar Kumar which straight away pushed the visitors back. But the powerhouse English top-order batsmen is not the one to be taken lightly and they proved it.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar strikes early

Jos Buttler & Dawid Malan played aggressively and kept England in the hunt. With them at the crease, England reached 50 runs in 27 balls while 100 came off in 9.2 overs. They brought up their respective half-centuries and Malan also became the fastest to score 1000 runs in T20I history.

England lost their way in the middle-overs 

But the dismissal of Jos Buttler brought about a collapse as from being 130-1 at around 13 overs mark, they were reduced to 142-5 in 15.3 overs. From then there was no coming back for the visitors. Indian bowlers never gave sniff as they were tight in the middle-overs. The hosts eventually lost by 36 runs as England managed to score 188 in their allotted 20 overs.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled a sensational spell in this game ending with figures of 2/16 and was named the player of the match while Shardul Thakur 3 wickets. Virat Kohli won the player of the series for his 231 runs in 5 innings.
