India’s New Zealand tour postponed until next year

India’s tour of New Zealand has been postponed until late next year due to the packed international schedule, according to New Zealand Cricket (NZC).

The tour was supposed to start in the New Zealand summer, but has now been pushed later next year as India were due to play three one-day internationals with the Kiwis.

An NZC spokesman confirmed that the Indian team would not be touring this season as per the FTP, and would fulfil those obligations later in 2022, after the next scheduled men’s Twenty20 World Cup in Australia in November 2022. New Zealand Cricket chief executive David White also mentioned the point of managing players’ workload, especially during the time of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the bio-bubble environment and other things being placed by the apex cricketing body.

NZC reasoned regarding the postponement of India’s tour

“We’ve got to be mindful of players coming back from a long winter and we’ve got to give them time at home as well,” NZC chief executive David White previously told Stuff.

Bangladesh, South Africa and Netherlands are scheduled for New Zealand this season before women’s teams arrive to participate in the 50-over World Cup in March next year.

New Zealand are scheduled to visit India for a two match Test series and three match T20I series following the end of the upcoming T20 World Cup in the UAE.
