Rajasthan Royals pulled off an amazing win against the top placed Mumbai Indians in what was a stunning chase. MI posted a massive 194 runs on the board thanks to a six-hitting exhibition from Hardik Pandya who made 60 off just 21 earlier in the game.
Chasing a big target, Stokes stroked his way right from the very beginning despite the wickets of Uthappa and Smith falling from the other end. He joined forces with another under-fire RR batsman Sanju Samson who himself scored a timely half-century.
Ben Stokes proved why he is the world’s best all-rounder
Ben Stokes only came mid through the tournament after missing the first half of this IPL due to personal reasons. He was drafted straight into the opening slot which is his unusual position. And in the first 5 games, the left-hander could score only 110 runs which were rather disappointing returns from a class player. He hasn’t picked any wickets either and may have wanted this kind of knock badly.
He was joined by Samson at the team’s score of 44 and put on a massive unbeaten 152 run partnership with the latter to take RR home. This was a pure exhibition of stroke play from both the players. Stokes though brought up his second IPL century, and this was also his first 50 since the year 2017.
This was a long time coming for the left-hander and it came up at an important juncture for his team. With this 8 wicket win over MI, RR have kept themselves alive in this tournament.
