IPL 2021: Rajasthan Royals rope in Evin Lewis and Oshane Thomas for the rest of the season

Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday announced West Indies hard-hitting opening batsman Evin Lewis and pacer Oshane Thomas have been signed by the franchise ahead of the UAE leg of the IPL 2021.

They are roped in as replacements for the English duo of Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes. While Buttler has opted out for personal reasons and Stokes is currently on an indefinite break from cricket.

With Jofra Archer also missing from the squad, it makes sense to rope in pacer Oshane Thomas who has previously featured for the Royals in the past. He has played 4 games in the 2019 edition and picked 5 wickets.

Likewise, in the absence of Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes, the Royals needed a top-order batsman to give company to the likes of Sanju Samson, Liam Livingstone. Evin Lewis is one of the best T20 openers going and is definitely a great pick.

Lewis has represented the defending champions Mumbai Indians for a couple of seasons and featured in 16 IPL games scoring 430 runs at a strike rate of over 130.

These are not the only replacement signings the Royals have done prior to the start of the 2nd leg of IPL 2021 in the UAE. Glenn Phillips, the Kiwi keeper-batsman, and World No.1 ranked T20I Tabraiz Shamsi was roped in as a replacement to Andrew Tye.

The Royals led by Sanju Samson are currently in 5th position in the 2021 edition after the 1st half of the tournament with 3 wins. They will need a much better half to qualify for the next stage.
