Rajasthan Royals brushed aside a struggling Sunrisers Hyderabad by 55 runs in the 28th game of the IPL 2021 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Seamers Mustafizur Rahman and Chris Morris were the stars with the ball picking 3 wickets each which helped in their successful defense of a huge total of 220.
Jonny Bairstow and Manish Pandey gave SRH a brilliant start
Jonny Bairstow and his new opening partner for the game Manish Pandey began in an aggressive manner in their response to the Rajasthan Royals‘ massive target of 221, scoring 57 runs in the powerplays. Pandey in particular batted with more freedom than usual as he made 31 of those.
But the threatening partnership between them was broken just after the end of powerplays in the same score as Manish got deceived of a Mustafizur Rahman’s slower ball for 31 from 20. They lost their in-form batsman Jonny Bairstow for 30 runs when he miscued a slog Rahul Tewatia in the 8th over.
Regular wickets push SRH on backfoot
The loss of their 2 openers meant the Sunrisers went at a slow pace when compared with the required rate. At the end of the 10 overs, they were 82/2 and facing an uphill task in chasing this huge target. The scoreboard pressure crept on Vijay Shankar as he departed off the bowling of Chris Morris in the 11th over for 8 runs.
Things got worse for SRH when their skipper Kane Williamson too went back to the pavilion after making a run a ball 20 to Kartik Tyagi. Mohammad Nabi was the next man in for men in orange and he straight away hit a couple of sixes before perishing to Mustafizur for a 5-ball 17. They still needed an almost improbable 92 runs from the last 5 overs.
The experienced pacers of the Royals Mustafizur Rahman & Chris Morris made sure they didn’t allow SRH batters to make a comeback to the contest by taking regular wickets. As a result, the Royals cruised to a 55-run win and this is their 3rd win of this tournament.
Jos Buttler wins the player of the match award for this exceptional knock of 124 which paved way for a Royal win.
