IPL 2022: Ashish Nehra set to become the head coach of Ahmedabad IPL team

IPL 2022: Ashish Nehra, Gary Kirsten, and Vikram Solanki in the line to join the  Ahmedabad based IPL franchise

Former Indian fast-bowler, Ashish Nehra will be Ahmedabad IPL franchise’s head coach during the 2022 Indian Premier League. Apart from him, England opener, Vikram Solanki is set to join the Ahmedabad forces as their ‘Director of Cricket’.

India’s former World cup-winning coach, Gary Kirsten has been offered the role of ‘Mentor’ of the franchise which is expecting to get its formal ‘Letter of Intent’ (LOI) during the month.

Although the news hasn’t been made official yet by the Ahmedabad franchise, it can be learnt that the appointments are imminent. It is only after the above mentioned names receive their respective LOI, can the franchise make these appointments official.

“As far as I have heard, they have signed Ashish as their head coach and someone who would be in overall charge of the franchise. Solanki will be the ‘Director of Cricket’ and also expected to double up as batting coach and Kirsten will be in a mentorship role.” a senior IPL source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

Also, it can be noted that Ashish Nehra received offers from other franchises too but he is more keen on taking up the challenge of building a team from scratch.

IPL 2022: Ashish Nehra and Gary Kirsten dial back to 2011 to write another chapter of glory together

The members of India’s 2011 World Cup triumph contingent, Ashish Nehra and Gary Kirsten are all set to work together once again. Nehra who was then a part of the Indian team as a fast-bowler, was coached by Gary Kirtsen in 2011.

Also, both Nehra and Kirsten have been involved in IPL previously for the same franchise, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The duo handled the responsibility of a head coach of RCB a few years back. Hence, they make a string case for themselves for the offered role in the new franchise since both of them are not new to this.
