In the 7th match of IPL 2022, Lucknow Super Giants chased down a mammoth target of 211 runs against defending champions Chennai Super Kings. Quinton de Kock setup the platform with a 99 run opening stand with skipper KL Rahul. LSG chased down the target with 6 wickets in hand and three balls to spare.
Evin Lewis provided the finishing touch with a magnificent half-century 55 off just 23 balls. Ayush Badoni also played a handy cameo in pressure situation. This makes it 6th time a chasing side has won the match in IPL 2022 making winning the toss and opting to chase.
Earlier, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) started aggressively after losing the toss and asked to bat first. Robin Uthappa & Moeen Ali played aggressive shots to keep CSK Run rate high. Shivam Dube also justified his position with an aggressive 49 runs off just 30 balls.
Ravi Bishnoi was the pick of the bowlers from LSG team as he bowled a magnificent spell of 24/2. MS Dhoni also showed his power hitting with a first ball six off Avesh Khan. With his last ball boundary, Dhoni also completed 7000 runs in T20 cricket.
The match was so thrilling that it came down to LSG needing 34 runs from last 2 overs. However, CSK skipper – Ravindra Jadeja was struggling with his bowlers to tackle the dew. So the penultimate over was handed to Shivam Dube with final over left for Mukesh Choudhary.
However, Ayush Badoni & Evin Lewis tore apart Shivam Dube and collected 25 runs. With just 9 runs required from last over, Badoni guided LSG calmly to victory.
