Gujarat Titans skipper – Hardik Pandya and bowler Lockie Ferguson ensured that Gujarat Titans remained on top of IPL 2022 points table by beating Rajasthan Royals by 37 runs. Chasing a target of 193 runs, Rajasthan Royals could only manage to reach 155/9 losing their second match of the season.
Hardik Pandya – Gujarat Titans skipper played a captain’s knock by scoring 87* runs off 52 deliveries. Abhinav Manohar also played a good innings while David Miller provided the finishing blows to take GT to 192/4.
Lockie Ferguson & Yash Dayal helped Titans defend the total by sharing 6 wickets among each other. Ferguson especially took the wicket of Jos Buttler with a superb yorker after he scored 54 runs off 24 deliveries.
In the same over earlier, Ferguson dismissed Ravi Ashwin who was promoted to no.3 batting position in a surprise move by RR management. In the 16th over of the innings, Ferguson returned to dismiss Riyan Parag to end all hopes of winning the match for Rajasthan Royals.
After Buttler, other RR batters couldn’t sustain the pressure of Gujarat Titans bowling and keeping the Run Rate in check. After Buttler, Hetmyer scored 29 runs as RR lost wickets at regular interval.
Debutant Yash Dayal also took 3 wickets for 40 runs in his spell with a first over wicket of Devdutt Padikkal. Dayal returned in middle overs to dismiss Rassie van der Dussen in 11th over and then dismissed Chahal in final over.
Hardik Pandya won player of the match award for his innings of 87* runs and then taking a wicket. However he left his 3rd over in between which was later revealed as cramps.
