IPL 2022: “I don’t think you will want to retain Maxwell however many runs he scores”- Aakash Chopra talks about RCB’s retentions

Aakash Chopra believes that the Royal Challengers Bangalore won’t retain Glenn Maxwell ahead of the 2022 IPL Mega-Auctions. According to him, the franchise will go with Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers as the 2 players who they retain for IPL 2022.

Glenn Maxwell, who had a disappointing IPL career thus prior to the 2021 season, showed the glimpse of talent he possesses in the 1st half of the season. The 32-year-old all-rounder made 223 runs in 7 games at an incredible strike rate of 144 despite majorly playing at slow Chepuak wickets.

But Aakash Chopra talking on the youtube channel on whom RCB will retain before 2022 IPL auctions said Maxwell won’t be retained nor RCB use RTM on him even if he continues to have a good season.

Chopra added that RCB has plenty of options to choose from and said the iconic duo of AB De Villiers, Virat Kohli will be the ones who they will retain.

RCB have options. Whichever team has options, it means they are very nicely placed in terms of their whole resources. I don’t think you will want to retain Maxwell however many runs he scores. You never know which side of him will turn up,” Aakash said.

Kohli is your first retention, you will want to keep AB de Villiers at No.2, he is an ageless, timeless wonder. He is a miracle. You will want to keep these two,” he added.

The cricketer-turned-analyst also opined that RCB will use their RTM on their most successful bowler Yuzuvendra Chahal and young opener Devdutt Padikkal. He added these players will form RCB’s core for the upcoming editions.

You will definitely want to use your RTM on two players. One is Yuzi Chahal and the other is Devdutt Padikkal. These will be the four players in my mind, you should try to keep these four with you because if you keep them, your core will be ready. After that, you can start afresh,” Aakash Chopra said.
