Jos Buttler – RR opener became the first centurion of IPL 2022 and helped Rajasthan Royals register their second consecutive victory in IPL 2022. RR setup a still target of 194 runs based on Buttler’s century and handy contributions from Samson & Hetmyer. Mumbai Indians were only able to score 170/8 in 20 overs and lost the match by 23 runs.
Earlier Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and invited RR to bat first. RR lost Yashasvi Jaiswal within 3rd over and Padikkal at the end of powerplay. But Jos Buttler kept going at one end aggressively. He found a good partner in skipper Sanju Samson as they added 82 runs in just 8.2 overs.
Shimron Hetmyer then tore apart MI bowlers in a little cameo as he scored 35 runs off just 14 balls. Jasprit Bumrah pulled back MI in death overs with his awesome bowling spell of 17/3.
MI started the chase for a huge score aggressively but lost Rohit Sharma in 2nd over to Prasidh Krishna. Ishan Kishan kept up the required run-rate in check with his elegant strokeplay.
The delight of MI batting was the youngster Tilak Varma, who showed awesome composure and skills. Tilak scored 61 runs off just 33 deliveries but once he and Ishan Kishan departed in quick succession, MI were out of contest.
All RR bowlers delivered efficient spells, Chahal & Navdeep Saini took 2 wickets apiece. Jos Buttler was declared as Player of the Match for his century.
