In the 6th match of IPL 2022 at DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai, RCB overcame the death over scare to register their first victory of season over KKR. Dinesh Karthik & Harshal Patel held their nerves while chasing a small target of 129 runs. KKR fought really hard and made it really difficult for RCB to chase the target.
Dinesh Karthik, coming in at no 7, a move from RCB team to handle such pressure situations only, kept his head cool. With 7 runs required from last over, Karthik struck a first ball six followed by a boundary to take RCB over victory line.
At the end of 18th over RCB required 17 runs with just 3 wickets in hand. Harshal Patel, who earlier bowled a superb economic spell of 11/2 with 2 maidens, struck 2 boundaries off Venkatesh Iyer. The 10 run over brought down the target to just 7 runs in final over which Dinesh Karthik can easily handle.
Earlier, Hasaranga de Silva choked KKR’s middle order after Akash Deep’s early wickets. de Silva took 4 wickets in his spell and gave away just 20 runs which earned him Player of the Match award.
With their first victory, RCB are up and running in IPL 2022 points table.
