The matches between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians are termed as “El Classico” by IPL fans around the world. In IPL 2022 despite both the teams reeling at the bottom of the points table, the contest proved that why CSK vs MI is “El Classico”.
Chasing a target of 156 runs, CSK required 17 runs off last over and MS Dhoni once again came for the rescue. He struck 6, 4, 2 & last ball boundary to win the thriller for CSK.
MS Dhoni once again proved that he is still the best finisher around the world. Dhoni came to the crease in 15th over after Rayudu falls with CSK needing 54 off 31 deliveries. In the next over, Dhoni saw Ravindra Jadeja also succumb to pressure and was joined by Pretoroius at the crease.
With 2 overs left from both Bumrah & Unadkat each, Rohit went with trusted way to hand Bumrah 17th & 19th over and Unadkat for other 2. Bumrah started the over with a wide but kept hitting perfect line and length. Dhoni didn’t took any risk against Bumrah and the over brought only 6 runs.
With 42 runs required off last 3 overs, both Pretorious & Dhoni tried to score big. The over brought 14 runs with a six and a boundary. In the 19th over, Pretorious take on Bumrah also and struck 2 clever boundaries. The equation brought down to 17 runs in the last over with Dhoni not at strike.
On the first ball of the final over, Unadkat trapped Pretorious in front of wickets with a full ball. The DRS decision overturned umpire’s decision to bring MI back in contest with the wicket.
Dwayne Bravo who completed 150 wickets for CSK in IPL, took a single on the next ball to give strike to best finisher in the world – MS Dhoni. And you know what happened, the bowler once again faltered in front of Dhoni.
Dhoni hit 6,4,2, and a last ball boundary to take CSK over the victory line. With the victory, Mumbai Indians are left with 7 losses out of 7 matches and Chennai Super Kings registered their second victory of the season.
