Punjab Kings (PBKS) have been underachievers all through the Indian Premier League (IPL), right from its inception till present. Despite having featured some of the finest cricketers like Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag, Adam Gilchrist and KL Rahul, the team has failed to clinch the IPL title even once.
The franchise was initially named Kings XI Punjab. Recently in 2021, it was renamed to Punjab Kings. However, the change in name did not bring about any change in fortunes for PBKS. The closest that Punjab Kings have come to winning an IPL title is playing the 2014 finals, where they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders.
PBKS have played well in patches in the last three IPL seasons. Failure to be consistent has kept them out of the playoffs. They finished have finished sixth in the last three editions, including 2021. PBKS have retained Mayank Agarwal and Arshdeep Singh ahead of IPL 2022 Mega Auction. Surprisingly, they let go of KL Rahul, who has been their most successful player in the recent past.
