Mumbai Indians lost their 6th consecutive match in IPL 2022 and are still reeling at the bottom of the points table. This time the defeat come against the new franchise – Lucknow Super Giants as they failed to chase the target of 200 runs and lost the match by 18 runs.
Mumbai Indians could only score 181 runs for 9 wickets as their batting lineup couldn’t build a big partnership. They kept losing the wickets at regular intervals and despite most of the batters getting strong starts, they couldn’t turn it into a big score.
Suryakumar Yadav top scored with 37 runs while Dewald Brevis thrilled the fans with his 31 off just 13 balls. Kieron Pollard tried to take the game deep but ran out of partners at other end.
LSG skipper – KL Rahul, who scored 103* runs for LSG and helped them post 199 runs in 20 overs, was declared as Player of the match.
Earlier, after winning the toss, MI skipper – Rohit Sharma invited LSG to bat first. Both teams made one change in the playing 11. MI bring in Fabien Allen in place of Basil Thampi while LSG brought in Manish Pandey in place of K Gowtham.
LSG openers – Quinton de Kock & KL Rahul started briskly and added 50 runs in just 5.2 overs. Fabien Allen striked in his first over for MI and dismissed de Kock for 24 runs off 13 deliveries.
Manish Pandey and KL Rahul scored risk free and added 72 runs for the 2nd wicket. Pandey was dismissed by M Ashwin in 14th over meanwhile KL Rahul reached his half-century off 33 balls.
Marcus Stoinis & Deepak Hooda helped increase the run rate in death overs with Rahul going berserk at one end. Rahul completed his 3rd IPL century in just 56 balls in penultimate over. However, Jaydev Unadkat controlled the runs with just 4 runs in final over of the innings as LSG reached 199/4 in 20 overs.
