IPL 2022 Retention: List of players retained by Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are among the most successful teams in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). They have won the IPL title twice in 2012 and 2014. However, they have failed to win the league ever since.

Kolkata Knight Riders had a brilliant turnaround in the second leg of the IPL 2021, coming from the bottom to make the finals. Unfortunately, they ended up losing to CSK in the finals.

They will look to take momentum from their performance. Kolkata Knight Riders have retained two Indian and two foreign players ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction.

Kolkata Knight Riders retain West-Indian duo of Sunil Narine and Andre Russell

KKR have gone the well known duo of Sunil Narine and Andre Russell. Further, they have also retained their key Indian players in Varun Chakravarthy and Venkatesh Iyer.

#4 Sunil Narine

Sunil Narine has been a consistent performer for Kolkata Knight Riders throughout his IPL career. He has been a prolific wicket-taker and has also troubled batters, not allowing them to score freely against him. Narine has picked 143 wickets from 134 IPL games. Narine’s exploits with the bat are well-known as well. He is one player who can take the game away both with the bat and ball. Surprisingly, Narine has been retained at an amount of INR 6 Crores.

#3 Varun Chakravarthy

Varun Chakravarthy has played a key role in Kolkata Knight Riders’ success in IPL 2021. The ‘mystery spinner’ certainly troubled the biggest of the batters with his excellent display of spin bowling throughout the season. In 17 games for KKR, he has picked 18 wickets in IPL 2021, making a key contribution in them making the finals. Chakravarthy will be paid INR 8 Crores.

#2 Venkatesh Iyer

Venkatesh Iyer made his debut for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2021. The all-rounder made an impact straight-away, going on to score 370 runs from 10 games, apart from picking three wickets as well. Following his impressive run, he was handed his India T20I debut against New Zealand as well. He has been retained for INR 8 Crores ahead of IPL 2022.

#1 Andre Russell

Andre Russell has been one of the biggest names when it comes to T20 franchise cricket. His heroics in the IPL for Kolkata Knight Riders are well known. Russell has been explosive with both bat and ball. When it comes to KKR, Russell being retained was a no-brainer. Although he did not have the usual impact he does in the IPL 2021 season, Russell is certainly a valuable player to have in the side. He has been retained at a price of INR 12 Crores.

Kolkata Knight Riders will be keen the get back the likes of Shubman Gill, Nitish Rana in the IPL 2022 auction. KKR have focused on their bowling with the retentions ahead of the IPL 2022 auctions. However, there is work to be done in the pace department going into the auctions. They will also have to build a strong batting line-up.
