Ireland started the tournament on a positive note by bagging a 39-run win over Uganda U19. However, they completely lost the track against India U19 by 174 runs and South Africa U19 by 153 runs. The last two defeats made them end the group stage with third spot in Group B.
The Tim Tector-led Irish side made it to the second plate quarter-final after disappointing group stage results. They would be aiming to end the tournament on a better note with better performances in the plate knockouts.
Meanwhile, Canada U19 were completely out of control in the group stage in Group A with three big defeats. They lost their initial encounter against UAE U19 by 49 runs. They later lost to England U19 by 106 runs. They ended the group stage with a defeat over Bangladesh U19 by eight wickets.
