IRE vs SA: Cricket Ireland announce 15-member squad for ODI, T20I series against South Africa

IRE vs SA: Andrew Balbirnie to lead the Ireland Squad in the Home Series against South Africa

Cricket Ireland announces their 15-member ODI & T20I squad that will participate in the Home Series against South Africa starting July 11.

The three-match ODI series to be played in Malahide, Ireland, forms part of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League. The ODIs will be followed by as many T20Is in the build-up to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup slated for later in the year.

The right-handed middle-order batsman, Andrew Balbirnie, will once again be seen leading the Irish side. The return of all-rounder, Curtis Campher, who was out with injury in the last series, will serve as a big boost for the Ireland side as well.

The Irish squad more or less looks settled with a perfect blend of experience and youth. They hold a solid pace-attack in the form of Josh Little, Craig Young, and Barry McCarthy while the spin duties will heavily rely on Simi Singh. The batting unit will be riding on the back of Paul Stirling, captain Andrew Balbirnie himself, and William Porterfield.

Both Ireland and South Africa will be coming into this fixture intending to gather crucial points in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League.

While Ireland’s previous ODI series was against the Dutch which ended in a 2-1 loss, the South Africans were beaten 2-1 in the series against Pakistan, earlier this year.

Talking about the previous encounters between the two teams, only two ODIs have been played with the Proteas winning on both occasions.
