BCCI selection committee has called up Jayant Yadav as a replacement for Washington Sundar. Navdeep Saini is included as a cover for Mohammed Siraj.
Off-spinner Sundar was scheduled to join the 19-member white-ball squad in Cape Town but tested COVID-19 positive in Mumbai.
Jayant is part of the Indian Test squad currently touring South Africa and he’ll now stay back with the team to be with the ODI squad.
“It has been decided that Jayant will stay back in South Africa. There was very little time to get any other player inside the bubble in Mumbai,” a BCCI source told TOI.
BCCI also called up fast bowler Navdeep Saini as a reserve for pacer Mohammed Siraj, who is recovering from a hamstring injury.
KL Rahul will be leading the side in absence of the new skipper Rohit Sharma during the three-match ODI series while pacer Jasprit Bumrah will be his deputy.
The ODI series against South Africa begins in Paarl on January 19. The second ODI is scheduled at the same venue on January 21, following which the team will travel to Cape Town for the series finale.
Revised India’s team for Ind vs SA ODI series: KL Rahul (Captain), Jasprit Bumrah (Vice-Captain), Shikhar Dhawan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, Venkatesh Iyer, Rishabh Pant (WK), Ishan Kishan (WK), Yuzvendra Chahal, R Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Deepak Chahar, Famous Krishna, Shardul Thakur, Mohammad Siraj, Jayant Yadav, Navdeep Saini.
