Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) young pacer Kartik Tyagi revealed Suresh Raina’s role in his cricketing career.
The new SRH recruit credited Suresh Raina for scouting him in the nets and helping him during the initial days of his career.
“I was with the team when Suresh Raina was around and he saw me. He was just returning back home, but came back and asked me to bowl in the nets. After a while he was impressed and told me that he will play me in further tournaments,” Kartik Tyagi revealed.
“I was shocked for the compliments he gave and I was happy after he told me that he was looking forward to play with me. And this is where my Ranji Trophy career kick started, from where I played for U-19 team as well,” Kartik said in the video.
“Suresh Raina entered my life like a God, because people started recognizing me when I was selected for the Ranji Trophy. When I was 13, I gave trials for the U-14 trials and this is where my cricketing journey began. I started playing for the U-14 and U-16 team.
“There was a season in the U-16 where I took 50 wickets in seven matches. This was where selectors started noticing me, as I took a lot of wickets at the state level. Despite reaching the finals and taking wickets, we lost the finals. This is where Gynendra Pandey sir saw me and he guided me,” the player opened up.
Tyagi who played for the Rajasthan Royals in the last two seasons of the IPL was signed by SRH for Rs 4 crore. In his 14 matches so far, Tyagi has picked 13 wickets with an average of 37.77 and an economy rate of 9.41 per over. But he’s yet to make his debut for SRH in the IPL 2022.
