Lucknow Super Giants beat Mumbai Indians by 36 runs to register their 5 victory of IPL 2022 and climb to 5th place in points table. Skipper KL Rahul is instrumental in leading the team from the front as he scored his second century of IPL 2022. Krunal Pandya also chipped with the ball as he took 3 wickets for just 19 runs in his spell.
After losing the toss and asked to bat first, KL Rahul single handedly took LSG to a competitive total of 168/6 in 20 overs. While Rahul scored 103* in just 62 balls the other batters from both teams struggled for fluency. Even MI skipper Rohit Sharma was able to score only 39 runs off 31 deliveries.
Explaining the reason for his sensational batting in IPL 2022 which has seen improved strike rate, Rahul said:
“I have to make up for the slow over-rate fines. I tried to stay in the moment and see what’s expected from me. Fingers crossed I can carry on doing the same thing. We do back deep with Holder walking in at No. 8 and he has hardly batted. When you have that depth, you can play freely and take more chances. Think that’s the only reason.”
Continuing further KL Rahul explained the reason for Lucknow Super Giants performing well in IPL 2022. Rahul said
“I think the teams that can defend well, can bowl well in the powerplay and the death, are the teams that sit at the top and win tournaments. We were lucky enough to get some of the finest allrounders, having them in the team I have options in the middle, and that makes my life easier.”
This was KL Rahul’s second century of IPL 2022 and both came against Mumbai Indians. With this excellent knock Rahul is second to Jos Buttler for the Orange Cap race with 368 runs in IPL 2022.
