Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb ur Rahman signed an extended stay with the English County club Middlesex for the T20 Blast 2021. The club informed that the Afghan spinner will be returning to Lord’s for the entire 2021 Vitality Blast campaign.
He’s resigned after enjoying success in the last season of the Blast in 2019. Mujeeb featured in ten of fourteen group fixtures, helping the club reach the knockout stage of the competition, where he again played in the quarter-final at Trent Bridge.
The 19-year-old spinner previously represented the club in the 2019 edition of the T20 league, claiming seven wickets from nine appearances at an economy rate of 7.23 helping the Lord’s-based team to progress past the group stages.
“It’s great to have Mujeeb with us again for the Blast. He’s the number two ranked bowler in T20 cricket, behind his countryman Rashid Khan, and brings great variety to our attack,” head coach Stuart Law said. “A great bloke to have in our dressing room as well, we are really looking forward to welcoming Mujeeb back next season.”
His status of being a specialist T20 bowler has grown in the last few years. He’s been a trump card for the teams in league cricket all over the World. Mujeeb has represented plays Kings XI Punjab in the IPL, Comilla Warriors in the BPL, Jamaica Tallawahs in CPL. And right now he’s with the Brisbane Heat in the tenth edition of the Big Bash League (BBL).
He picked up 16 wickets in the recently concluded CPL, leading the honors for most scalps in the tournament along with New Zealand’s Scott Kuggeleijn. The teenage sensation picked up three wickets in three consecutive matches for his franchise, conceding less than a run a ball on all of those occasions.
The Mystery of Mujeeb is tough to decode for any batsman and his ability to bowl in any phase of the 20-over game makes him a valuable prodigy for any T20 franchise. Mujeeb’s retention in the club for the whole tournament would give Middlesex a real chance for hunting the title down.
