Dane Vilas has been signed up by Northern Superchargers as a temporary replacement for their captain Faf du Plessis in The Hundred.
Vilas will provide cover for Du Plessis who will miss the next two matches after suffering symptoms of concussion. Earlier the Superchargers reported that the former South Africa captain will miss the first three matches of the 100 ball competition.
Dane is also the captain of Lancashire and is going to miss two games for his county in the ongoing Royal London One-Day Cup. The wicket-keeper batsman won’t be there to lead Lancashire against Gloucestershire and Kent. Tom Bailey, the right-arm pacer, will take the reins of the county in the absence of the South Africa-born cricketer.
Faf was bought into the Northern Superchargers setup as captain following the withdrawal of Australia’s Aaron Finch. Du Plessis sustained a concussion during the PSL 2021 six weeks ago in UAE, the impact of which is still concerning the medical staff at his Hundred club.
Dane Vilas was first picked up by Manchester Originals in the first draft for The Hundred but was subsequently dropped in the redraft owing to the change in Kolpak rules making him ineligible as a domestic signing, and now he’ll be available for the game against Trent Rockets on Monday (July 26).
