Former Pakistan captain & left arm fast bowler – Wasim Akram believes that Pakistan cricket team has the ability to compete against Indian cricket team. He said that Pakistan’s win over India in the T20 World Cup 2021 boosted their confidence and made them believe that they can compete against India.
Pakistan cricket team beat India in the T20 World Cup 2021 by a margin of 10 wickets. The victory has broken the Pakistan’s winless record against India in World Cup events. Akram feels what was once a one-sided rivalry at World Cups has suddenly come alive.
India will be taking on Pakistan in T20 World Cup 2022 once again. Before that both teams can play potentially three times in the upcoming Asia Cup 2022. The first match of both teams will be played on August 28 in Dubai.
During a media session organised by Star Sports, Akram said :
“Pakistan team is on the rise for the past couple of years. They’ve been consistent, and I think the win against India, although that was a year ago during the World Cup, gave them a bit of confidence that they can compete against India day in and day out.”

It’s a bit too early to compare him to Kohli at this stage, Akram on Babar vs Virat Kohli debate
Wasim Akram praised Pakistan’s skipper Babar Azam for his impressive batting record. However, he said that it is too early to compare him with modern day legend – Virat Kohli.
“Babar has been very consistent because he has the right technique. He enjoys his batting, is still very hungry, physically fit, still young and is the captain across formats. He’s learning and learning very quickly. As far as comparisons go, he’s on the right track to be where Virat Kohli is. It’s a bit too early to compare him to Kohli at this stage, but he’s on track to be one of the modern greats,” Akram concluded.
