PCB announces Pakistan’s 15 member squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2021

Pakistan Cricket Board has announced a 15-member squad for the 2021 edition of ICC Men’s T20 World T20 Cup that is to be held in the UAE from October. They are slated in the same group as India, New Zealand, Afghanistan, and 2 other qualifiers.

Pakistan team who will open their campaign against their arch-rivals India on the 24th of October will be lead by their best batsman Babar Azam. Asif Ali and Khushdil Shah make a return to the side to the mega event. On the other hand, the experienced pacers Mohammad Amir, Wahab Riaz, and the veteran all-rounder Shoaib Malik don’t find a place.

Surprisingly they have left out their 2017 Champions Trophy-winning captain Sarfaraz Ahmed in favor of much younger keeper-batsman Azam Khan.

Opening batsman Fakhar Zaman, leg spinner Usman Qadir, and young pacer Shahnawaz Dhani were picked as reserves for this long tournament.

Pakistan chief selector Muhammad Wasim talked about the selections during a press conference. He added that all bases were covered in this team selected by their selection committee.

While selecting the squad, we have tried to cover all our bases by catering for the modern day brand of T20 cricket that will be required to perform impressively in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup,”

This includes trusting the abilities, skills and experience of the players to perform in a high-pressure global tournament in conditions that are familiar to us, as well as looking at the teams we will play in Group-2 matches,
