Former India captain Sachin Tendulkar is expected to take part in the Road Safety World Series 2022 for India legends.
There’s an unclarity of the Master blaster’s role in the tournament. Whether he’s going to play for the India legends or going to take up the mentor role.
India, Australia, Sri Lanka, West Indies, South Africa, Bangladesh and England will now be joined by New Zealand Legends during the 30-day event played primarily to create awareness towards road safety in the country and around the globe.
The last season of the RSWS had around 160 international retired cricketers in action, like Jonty Rhodes, Carl Hooper, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh and Australia veteran bowler Brett Lee amongst other big stars. Dilshan was the Player of the Series of the inaugural edition as he ended the tournament as the highest scorer and wicket-taker. Tendulkar scored 30(23) in the final to help Indian Legends win the first edition of the RSWS.
The Road Safety World Series is supported by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and the Ministry of Information & Technology and Youth Affairs & Sports Government of India. 27th Sports, backed by US-based 27th Investments, are the exclusive commercial rights holder of the league while Professional Management Group (PMG) is the event management partner.
Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Government of India, said, “The Road Safety World Series is a very good initiative to create awareness towards road safety through cricket. We want every individual in this country to be aware and obey every rules and regulations while on the road and for that to happen, we have to create awareness among the people, I strongly believe that this series will be able to do and achieve the goal of saving lives on Indian roads.”
The second edition of the Road Safety World Series will be played from June 4 till July 3, 2022 across three venues – Lucknow, Indore and Jodhpur from June 4 till July 3, 2022.
