Former Australia speedster Shaun Tait has been roped in as the bowling coach of the Puducherry cricket team.
Tait is going to be the lone foreign coach in the Indian domestic circuit. Tait will join the team in the last week of September. The former Aussie international had recently been appointed as the bowling coach of the Afghanistan men’s team for a period of five months. However, the uncertainty in Afghanistan following the takeover of the country by the Taliban has raised doubts over his stint there. He’s expected to join the Afghan team around the time of the T20 World Cup in UAE. Tait has already cleared that coaching Afghanistan will be his first priority and he will link up with Puducherry only when available.
Tait signed a conditional contract with Puducherry
“I’m with [Puducherry] throughout the season based on availability from my commitments with the Afghanistan team,” Shaun Tait confirmed to ESPNcricinfo on Saturday.
“We have roped him (Tait) in as bowling coach subject to his availability. He had expressed his willingness to come on board. Whenever he is not on any international assignment he will be with the Pondicherry team,” Cricket Association of Pondicherry (CAP) spokesperson said.
The CAP has announced former Rajasthan wicket-keeper batsman Dishant Yagnik as its coach for the season.
“Pondicherry has a lot of naturally talented fast bowlers. They need a professional coach to guide them. Tait will assist all age groups to groom our fast bowlers, he will also be going to work with our local bowlers in our academy,” the spokesperson said.
According to sources, Tait will join the Puducherry in the last week of September. In the coaching group, he’ll be working with the head coach Dishant Yagnik and manager and strength and conditioning coach Kalpendra Jha.
