SL vs Ind 2021: “Not really” says Suryakumar Yadav when asked about whether payed attention to Arjuna Ranatunga’s comments

India’s Suryakumar Yadav has said that the team is completely focused on the tour of Sri Lanka and didn’t pay heed to the comments made by former Sri Lankan skipper Arjuna Ranatunga. The Indian team will face Sri Lanka’s hosts in a 3-match ODI series followed by 3 T20Is starting 13th July.

Ranatunga, the world cup winning skipper criticized the SLC for accepting to host a second-string Indian team.

This is a second-string Indian team and their coming here is an insult on our cricket. I blame the current administration for agreeing to play with them due to television marketing needs,” he had said.

Suryakumar Yadav who is in line to make an ODI debut in the series in a virtual press conference said that team didn’t really talk about what this matter. He added the largely inexperienced team is here in Colombo to take positives and enjoy the challenge.

Not really (we don’t talk about that). Everyone is completely focussed. The way the practice sessions are going, the way the game went yesterday, it’s going according to plan and we are really excited for the challenge. We are not thinking about that (this being a second-string side). We are just here to have some fun, enjoy this series and take a lot of positives from here,” Suryakumar Yadav said in a virtual press conference on Tuesday.

While the multi-format players like Kohli, Rohit, Bumrah, Rahul, Shami are currently in England for the Test series, BCCI named a 20-member team led by Shikhar Dhawan. It had plenty of fresh faces like Ruturaj, Padikkal along with more experienced players like Bhuvneshwar, Hardik Pandya, Manish Pandey.

Surya Yadav revealed that he was excited when he heard that BCCI is sending two different teams to tour at the same time.

Two teams playing together… I think that’s the first time (something like this) is happening. I was very excited about it when I got to know,” said Suryakumar.

Surya also heaped praise on coach Rahul Dravid crediting him for being calm and composed.

The Indian team just had an inter-squad match on July 6th after completing their mandatory quarantine.

When asked about preparation for the tour, SKY said that conditions in Colombo are more or less similar to what they get in Mumbai or Chennai. He felt that it would be a good challenge for the team.

We have played in these conditions before like for example, we play in Mumbai, we play in Chennai, where the humidity is high. Most importantly, we have come here 15-20 days before the tournament, so think it’ll be good. We played a game also yesterday. The wicket was pretty good, I hope it stays that way but if there are slow wickets, we are going to take time, apply ourselves and see. It’ll be a good challenge,” he said.

Meanwhile, SL is yet to name the squad that will face India and the team is currently going through a rough phase. SL team led by Kusal Perera couldn’t register a single win in their tour of England earlier this month.
