Hopes for South Africa cricket team’s participation in the upcoming 50 over ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 have suffered a huge blow. South Africa cricket team has pulled away from the three match series against Australia, which was set to be played in January 2023.
Currently South Africa team are placed at 11th place which left their hopes under threat. According to the ICC Cricket rules, the top 8 teams in the ICC Cricket Super League will be able to participate in the marquee event.
India will host the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 which will be played on October-November. This will be the first time that the entire 50 over World Cup will be played in India. In 1987, 1996 & 2011, India have shared the world cup with Pakistan, Sri anka & Bangladesh.
South Africa cricket team will be playing another couple of series before the completion of the Super League period. They will be playing three ODI match series against England and India while 2 ODI match against the Netherlands.
Even eight wins in as many matches could leave South Africa short of the points total they need to go straight to the 2023 World Cup.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) requested Cricket Australia (CA) to reschedule the three-match ODI series so that it does not clash with their new domestic T20 league. However, the Australian cricket team is having calendar full of other series.
