Trent Rockets batsman Alex Hales endured a tough night on Sunday in the side’s game against the Oval Invincibles at the Hundred. He was hit on his groin on 2 consecutive deliveries while facing the left-arm pacer Reece Topley of the Invincibles.
Trent Rockets were chasing a target of 126 runs from 65 in a rain-affected game at the Oval. In the 13th ball of the innings, Alex Hales copped a blow after failing to connect the ball with the bat. He was immediately down in pain but got up and continued to bat after some treatment.
In the very next delivery, Hales decided to stand little outside off to counter Topley’s ball to the leg side but he failed to connect the ball, and once again it hit him on the groin. This took the Oval Invincible on-field players including skipper Sam Billings in splits.
Alex Hales copping back-to-back balls to the crown jewels sounds better with Titanic music 😭😂#TheHundred #PrayforAlex @AlexHales1 pic.twitter.com/vsPlrli4kh

Sam Billings looked at the funny side of it and tweeted after the game.

Alex Hales reacted to this with a sarcastic tweet “Appreciate all the messages of concern after last night..It’s great to know that my well-being was at the forefront of everyone’s thoughts and that no one found it funny in the slightest!Unfortunately, it’s worst-case scenario today with minimal swelling and maximal pain”

Even though he was in pain, Alex Hales continued to play and scored 25 from 15 but it was not enough ass the Rockets fell short of the 126 runs target by 10 runs. Only the team’s skipper Lewis Gregory who made 28 off 12 scored more than Hales.
