Bangladesh are the defending champions of the ICC Men’s U19 World Cup. They beat India in the finals of the 2020 edition to win the tournament. The 2022 edition will be held in the West Indies from January 14.
Left-arm spinner Rakibul Hasan will lead Bangladesh. He was also a member of the 2020 U19 World Cup winning side. Bangladesh are drawn in Group A. The group comprises of England, Canada and UAE. Pakistan is the only team to have defended the U19 World Cup title before (2004 and 2006).
As Bangladesh get ready for their title defense, here are their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats for the U19 World Cup 2022.
Bangladesh will be captained by Rakibul Hasan who was a part of their winning team in the 2020 U19 World Cup. Therefore, they have an experienced player who will lead them. He was one of their key players with valuable performances in the previous edition as well with twelve wickets.
The team also performed well in the recent U19 Asia Cup. Bangladesh finished at the top of Group B with two wins and a no-result out of three games. However, they lost the semi-final against India. Nonetheless, they will take confidence from their campaign. The likes of Naimur Rohman, skipper Rakibul Hasan and Ariful Islam were impressive in the tournament.
They have had a decent run in the recent past, having won the tri-series in December 2021 involving India U19 A and India U19 B as well. Thus, Bangladesh will be confident coming into the World Cup.

Bangladesh lost the U19 Asia Cup semi-final to India as a result of their failure with the bat. Moreover, their batters were not up to the mark in the tournament. They were unable to click as a batting unit. Bangladesh will have to make a turnaround as far as their batting is concerned if they are to defend their U19 World Cup title.
From being a key member of the winning team in the previous edition to being the skipper this time around, Rakibul Hasan has an important responsibility. However, with responsibility, he also has the opportunity to now lead the side. Bangladesh U19 will be keen to defend their title. They have a well-balanced side. They have also been in good form in the recent past. Bangladesh have the golden chance to become only the second team to defend their title at the U19 World Cup.
Rakibul Hasan and his boys carry the tag of ‘defending champions’ coming into this tournament. Therefore, Bangladesh will have the challenge to match their title winning-run from the previous edition. It will be important for them to handle the pressure and expectations.

Bangladesh U19 Fixtures
The defending champions will start their campaign in the 2022 U19 World Cup against England on January 16. They then meet Canada on January 20 and UAE on January 22 in their group matches.
