India U19 skipper Yash Dhull was one of the leading run-scorers in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy earlier this year. Vice-captain SK Rasheed was also impressive in the same tournament. He has registered a match-winning century.
Moreover, the team is in good form as they beat Sri Lanka in the final of the U19 Asia Cup recently in December 2021. Raj Bawa put up a brilliant all-round performance. He was the highest wicket-taker and the fourth highest run-scorer in the team. Rajvardhan Hangargekar and Ravi Kumar were exceptional with new ball as well. The bowling comes as a major strength with four Indian bowlers being in the top ten wicket-takers at the U19 Asia Cup 2021.

After having a good run in the U19 Asia Cup, India will be confident coming into the U19 World Cup. However, one area of concern is the Indian batting order finding it slightly difficult to adjust to the 50-over format. Harnoor Singh was the only Indian batter to cross the 200-mark, scoring 251 runs at the U19 Asia Cup.
After having won the U19 Asia Cup, the U19 World Cup presents India the biggest opportunity to prove themselves at the world stage as well. In addition, this Indian team has many young players who are capable of making the transition to the senior level. This tournament will be an opportunity for them to develop, also with a good chance to make a name for themselves going forward. Skipper Yash Dhull has the biggest opportunity to carry forward India’s legacy at the U19 World Cup as well.
Living up to the expectations will be a big challenge for India at the U19 World Cup. Given India’s history and the team’s recent form, they do start as favorites to go all the way. However, a lot will depend on how they cope with the pressure of a big tournament. While India’s bowlers fared well at the U19 Asia Cup, the batters will have to step their game up in this tournament.
