SWOT Analysis of Vidarbha

After the end of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, all eyes will be on Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021/22 that commences from December 8. A total of 38 state teams will compete in the league with the final set to take place on December 26. The One Day League provides a great opportunity for domestic players to showcase their skills.

One side that has taken giant strides in the domestic circuit is Vidarbha. They have been brilliant in the past few years and the years of hard work have paid off and earned them good results in recent times. They are one of the teams to look forward to in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021-22.

Vidarbha qualified to the semi-finals in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy but failed to seal a berth in the final as they lost to Karnataka in the semi-final. A change in format might help them as they have some promising players on their side who will be eager to go all the way in the competition. Placed in Elite Group A, Vidarbha will compete against Himachal Pradesh, Andhra, Odisha, Gujarat, and Jammu and Kashmir.

Vidarbha will be playing its first match on December 8 against Himachal Pradesh. Ahead of it, have a look at Vidarbha’s Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats.

Strengths

There were some brilliant individual performances from them in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy. The likes of Akshay Karnewar, Darshan Nalkande, Akshay Wadkar were brilliant and they will be high in confidence which will help them while entering the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021-22.

Vidarbha’s bowlers impressed everyone in the T20 league and they have the ability to outclass batters from the opposition. The bowler’s form will dictate how far they go in the competition. The bowling heavy side will continue to rely on their bowlers in the upcoming One Day League.

Weaknesses

The batting lineup lacks experience and it might hurt them going forward in the competition. The batters haven’t got much experience and it will all come down to holding your nerves in pressure situations. The bowlers have done most of the work for them in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy and the batters need to take responsibility and perform to their potential.

Opportunities

Akshay Karnewar took the cricketing world by storm by his stellar bowling performances in the T20 league. He will be eager to carry his rich form with the ball forward and continue to play a major role for his side.

Right-arm pacer Darshan Nalkande picked up four wickets in four balls in Vidarbha’s semi-final clash against Karnataka. He was good with the ball throughout the competition and the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021-22 will be a great opportunity for him to widen his skills in white-ball cricket.

Threats

The batters haven’t had the best of the times in recent times. They have looked good in patches and they need to contribute consistently to take their side in the knockout stages of the competition. Faiz Fazal has plenty of experience and it will be interesting to see how he leads his side in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021-22.

The over-reliance on their bowlers might hurt them in the long run. The bowlers’ form will dictate their progress in the competition.
