India’s premier all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was handed the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings ahead of the IPL 2022 season. However, after a disastrous start to the IPL 2022 campaign Jadeja was ripped off from captaincy mid season as MS Dhoni returned back to captaincy role. Now a CSK insider has revealed the reason for relieving Jadeja from captaincy in IPL 2022.
During the IPL 2022, Ravindra Jadeja had an unforgettable season with Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Just two days before the start of the IPL 2022 season, Jadeja was named as the skipper of the team which was always lead be MS Dhoni. However, Ravindra Jadeja was never looked settled with the captaincy pressure in the first 8 matches as CSK won only 2 out of them.
Jadeja’s own performance started to show the pressure of the captaincy role as he scored just 116 runs in 10 innings at 19.33 and took only 5 wickets. Additionally he also dropped simple catches. The CSK all-rounder was ruled out in the business end of the tournament after suffering a rib injury during their match against Delhi Capitals on May 8.
Now, according to the CSK insider MS Dhoni wanted to safeguard Jadeja from losing his spot in India’s T20 World Cup 2021 squad. Hence, he decided to return back to captaincy role.
“CSK insiders still insist Dhoni sincerely believed that Jadeja’s place in the Indian T20 team could come under scanner if he didn’t perform in the IPL and that’s why he was relieved of his captaincy.”
According to the media reports, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Ravindra Jadeja are almost certain to part ways ahead of the IPL 2023. Jadeja joined CSK in 2012 and is currently the third most wicket-taker (114) of the franchise behind Dwayne Bravo (154) and Ravichandran Ashwin (120).
